Though it looks more like something that might pop up in midtown or downtown Sacramento, a new residential and retail project, estimated to cost $23 million, is in the works for 65th Street.

An application filed with the city calls for a six-story building of 90 apartments and 2,800 square feet of retail space at 1325 65th St. That site is currently occupied by vacant commercial buildings and is on a path between the light-rail station at Q Street and 65th and the southwestern flank of California State University Sacramento.

“What we wanted to do is more smart urban housing,” said Ken King, a partner at developer TriCap Partners 65 LLC. He said the site is close to not only light rail and the university, but other retail and restaurant options as well. “This is the kind of project the area can support.”
