K Street

During the 1930s and 40s, K Street between 3rd and 12th Street was the socio-economic hub of Downtown, Sacramento. Featuring illustrious retailers like Macy’s, Weinstock’s, Montgomery Ward and the Crest and Esquire Theaters, the 9-block thoroughfare was the heart of the city.

Beginning in the 1950s suburban flight changed all that and by the 1980s and 90s, K Street was devoid of entertainment and riddled with vacancies and blighted buildings. Civic leaders deemed the revitalization of K Street to be one of the City’s highest priorities and even designated this corridor to be a special district redevelopment zone.

Turton started his career in 1997 as a leasing agent for the Esquire Plaza, a 250,000 SF Class A high-rise located at 1215 K Street. As part of that process, he developed a healthy obsession and commitment to the redevelopment of K Street and Sacramento’s urban core.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, no person or firm has played a more significant role in the redevelopment of K Street than Ken Turton and Turton Commercial Real Estate. Significant contributions include the following:

Iconic Building

In 2018 the City of Sacramento hired Turton Commercial to sell a 3 story, 18,000 SF former bank building on the Northwest corner of 8th and K Street. The building was constructed primarily of unreinforced masonry cinder block and had no parking. It had been vacant for almost a decade. The Turton team identified and represented Casadyne as the ideal buyer who completely renovated the building into an 18,000 SF masterpiece of glass and steel and is currently the home of Ernst & Young.
