A growing restaurant chain that specializes in customizable bowls and salads plans to open two local sites by the end of the year.
Los Angeles-based Sweetgreen Inc. (NYSE: SG), which has expanded to more than 250 locations throughout the U.S. since its first store opened in 2007, is entering the Sacramento area with restaurants in Campus Commons and Sacramento’s R Street Corridor.
The fast-casual chain’s menu offers protein plates, bowls and salads made from scratch using high-quality ingredients and produce that prioritizes organic, regenerative and local sourcing, according to its website.
“Nestled in two bustling and vibrant community centers, we can’t wait to bring our signature menu of seasonal salads, warm bowls, and hearty protein plates to these Sacramento neighborhoods,” said Christopher Tarrant, chief development officer at Sweetgreen, in an email.
The Campus Commons location will fill an approximately 2,800-square-foot space at 2080 Fair Oaks Blvd., Suite 180, in The Boulevard center. The restaurant, which will feature an approximately 750-square-foot patio, joins the center’s east building, which includes tenants such as Urban Plates, Sharetea, Tasty Dumpling and Chip Cookies. The center, which is owned by local developer Paul Petrovich, has approximately 31,000 square feet of retail space and was completed last year. It’s across the street from shopping center The UV.
The R Street Corridor location will fill an approximately 2,100-square-foot space at 1629 S St., in The Richmond — a new four-story, mixed-used project that was also completed last year. The restaurant joins a bar called Day Tripper as the first tenants lined up for the project, which was developed by Sutter Capital Group and is near other retail destinations such as Ary Place and Ice Blocks.
Jamie Schecter, a spokesperson for Sweetgreen, said both Sacramento locations are expected to open later this year and are part of the restaurant brand’s continued expansion into Northern California. The chain currently operates 45 locations throughout California, though all current sites are in Southern California and the Bay Area.
