A chain that serves specialty doughnuts and Korean-style hot dogs is entering the Sacramento area, with two local sites in the works.

Mochinut will open locations in the Delta Shores project on the south edge of Sacramento, and in the 1430 Q apartment and retail project near Sacramento’s R Street Corridor, according to the chain’s website.

The company sells mochi doughnuts. Mochi is a Japanese rice cake. Mochinut says its doughnuts are made with rice flour and have a stretchy, chewy texture. “There is a sticky addictiveness to each bite, a textural element that is completely different from yeast or cake donuts,” the company’s website says. The doughnuts, a combination of Japanese and American foods, resemble eight connected balls of dough.

The chain is also known for its Korean hot dogs, which look similar to corn dogs, but are made with a rice flour batter.

Mochinut will occupy 678 square feet next to CycleBar in 1430 Q, the mid-rise at 15th and Q streets in Sacramento, according to leasing materials from Turton Commercial Real Estate. Scott Kingston, a vice president with Turton Commercial, was not immediately available to comment on the planned tenant.

In addition, Mochinut will fill 1,121 square feet in Delta Shores, according to leasing materials from center developer Merlone Geier Partners. Gary Muljat, a managing director with Merlone Geier, did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

The company’s website lists open locations in California, New Jersey, Texas and Washington. Mochinut says it plans to expand to several other states, as well as South Korea and Thailand. Most of its open locations are in California.

Both local sites are listed as “coming soon” on the company’s website. Mochinut representatives did not immediately respond to an email seeking additional information.
