Seasons Kitchen & Bar, which has been a staple in downtown Davis for more than 20 years, will be closing its doors later this week.
The restaurant, which opened at 102 F St. in Davis in 2003, is led by executive chef Yekaterina Balagian, who was recently a lead chef in the annual Tower Bridge Dinner, one of the Sacramento area’s premier farm-to-fork events. Since Balagian joined the Seasons team in 2023, the upscale restaurant’s menu has focused on what it describes as Middle Eastern-inspired Californian cuisine using seasonal ingredients sourced from around the region.
Balagian said Seasons’ 18 employees were notified last week that the restaurant would be permanently closing and that they were being laid off. She said the email came from Aimbridge Hospitality, which operates the Hilton Garden Inn hotel in Davis on behalf of its local owner, Davis-based Presidio Companies. Presidio purchased the property in 2018 and remodeled and rebranded the former Hallmark Inn into a Hilton Garden Inn. Seasons is connected to the hotel.
Seasons’ last day of service is planned for Sept. 13, Balagian said. A reason for the sudden closure was not provided to Balagian by the owners.
Neither representatives of Aimbridge Hospitality nor Presidio Companies responded to requests for comment on Monday.
A few weeks prior to the notice that the restaurant would close, Balagian said she filed a workplace safety complaint against the owners of the restaurant regarding issues such as no air conditioning in the kitchen and a leaky roof. She said she attempted to remedy the issues in-house but after months of communications and no meaningful improvements she filed the complaint.
Balagian said she’s unsure what the owners have planned for the restaurant following Seasons’ closure.
It appears the owners of the space are looking to replace Seasons with a different restaurant concept. Local broker Scott Kingston of Turton Commercial Real Estate posted on X Monday night that the approximately 3,000-square-foot downtown Davis restaurant space is available immediately and fully equipped for various culinary concepts.
Last year, Presidio Companies filed plans to build a new 90-room, boutique Hilton hotel behind the Hilton Garden Inn. Those plans indicated the new six-story hotel would replace a two-story rear addition to the Hilton Garden Inn and would include an event/meeting space, ground-floor lounge and fitness center, as well as a 3,500-square-foot rooftop bar. It’s unclear if that project would impact the restaurant space currently occupied by Seasons.
