Qisa Coffee, which will specialize in Yemeni coffee mixed with Peshawari flavors, is planned for a space in a newer mixed-use infill project in Curtis Park.
The shop is planning to fill an approximately 900-square-foot sapce at 2348 Castro Way, Suite 101, in Sacramento’s Curtis Park neighborhood. The mixed-use building, called The Amalia, was developed by HK3 Development and includes eight apartments and approximately 4,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. Qisa Coffee will be the only retail tenant, with the other two spaces occupied by medical tenants including an optometrist.
Abdul Aziz, owner of Qisa Coffee, said the shop will feature a menu of chai tea, Turkish coffee, and espresso drinks like its signature Qisa Latte, made with Yemeni beans and infused with cardamom. It will also offer small bites such as naan and hummus dip, beef pie, cheese pie and honey bites, a Yemeni dessert that features bread filled with cream cheese and topped with honey.
“I’m a coffee enthusiast and love researching all about coffee,” said Aziz, who has also been operating a coffee and dessert pop-up called Baklava and Coffee at local farmers markets since 2020. “Before starting my first business during Covid, I traveled with my wife to Seattle on a road trip, where she gifted me a Turkish coffee maker. That’s where the concept first started for me.”
Aziz is currently waiting for building permits to begin renovating the space. He’s hopeful to have Qisa Coffee open by June 1.
Qisa Coffee would be at least the third Yemeni coffee concept to be announced around the area within the last year. Michigan-based Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. is in the process of opening a location in Folsom, while San Francisco-based Sana’a Cafe is planning to fill a space on K Street in Downtown Sacramento.
